Saron – a Gamelan musical instrument. The saron is one of several basic musical instruments used in the gamelan, a traditional musical ensemble with its roots in Indonesia. The saron normally has seven bronze bars on top of a resonating frame. It is played by a performer who is usually seated on the floor. The Malay gamelan ensemble which also inlcudes the saron, has increasingly developed a distinct identity of its own; usually played during royal occassions in the royal courts of Pahang and Terengganu.
